Website, store or AI team: what are you paying for each month?

A website plan, an online store and an AI team can all arrive as a monthly charge. They pay for different things. Here is what each costs as published, and how to tell which one your business needs.

If you need a simple website

For a few pages, a contact form and the odd update, a website plan is the cheaper purchase. Squarespace Basic is $19 a month billed annually, or $25 billed monthly, and its annual plans include a year of free registration on eligible domains. AgentsFast’s team plus website hosting is $169 a month.

If you’re comfortable keeping the site up yourself, the website plan is the better value. If you aren’t, count your own time too: hours you’d rather spend on paid work are a real cost, and paying for help is a fair comparison. Our website checklist covers how to test the editing before you pay.

If you want to sell online

A store adds two kinds of cost: the plan, and fees on each sale.

  • Shopify Basic is $29 a month billed yearly, or $39 monthly. Card rates with Shopify Payments start at 2.9% + 30¢ online. Basic also lists a 2% third-party transaction fee on applicable payments through other providers; Shopify’s help page lists exceptions, including manual payment methods. It also advertises an introductory offer; budget on the regular price.
  • Squarespace Basic can sell online but adds a 2% transaction fee on store sales, on top of card fees. Core, at $29 a month annually or $39 monthly, removes that store fee. Paid courses and member content have a separate fee: 7% on Basic and 5% on Core.
  • AgentsFast’s store setup starts at $217 a month: the $150 team, $19 website hosting, a $29 online store and a $19 site database. Card processing is charged by Stripe on your own Stripe account, and shipping labels bought through AgentsFast cost the carrier rate plus a 10% platform fee.

Before you choose, take a month of expected sales and add each option’s plan price to its per-sale fees. At low volume the plan price matters most; as sales grow, the percentages matter more.

If what you need is help with the work

An AI team is a different purchase. AgentsFast’s $150 a month covers a manager agent and up to three agents run from chat, with a built-in customer record system, a knowledge base, and connectors and automations. Customer-facing channels are priced on top: texting from $19 a month, email from $5 a month plus $1 per user, and phone plans from $199 a month in total, including the team. AgentsFast is available by invitation.

Website and store platforms have AI features too. Squarespace lists built-in AI tools. Shopify describes Sidekick as an assistant in the store admin that can work on products, orders and connected apps, including longer tasks that continue in the background. Its setup page says “Sidekick can’t talk to your customers or handle customer support conversations on your behalf.” That is about Sidekick itself, not every app that works with Shopify.

So the question isn’t whether a product has AI. It’s which work you want done for you, and what that work costs you now. If you’d otherwise spend hours a week on replies, follow-up and records, or pay someone for them, compare the team’s price with that. If you wouldn’t, a website or store plan on its own is enough.

Questions to ask about any monthly charge

  1. Which billing term is the price for, and what does paying monthly cost?
  2. What does an introductory price become?
  3. What do I pay per sale at my volume, with my payment processor?
  4. What does the domain cost after the first year?
  5. Which add-ons would I actually need, and what do they cost each month?
  6. Who keeps the site current, and how much of my time does that take?
  7. What can I take with me if I leave?

What this guide can’t tell you

It compares published prices and descriptions, not how the products perform. It doesn’t rank them, and there is no overall winner. Prices change; check before you decide. We didn’t check which features each plan includes beyond what’s stated here. We left out Wix for length; that isn’t a judgment about it.
